About the Team
PackBionics is a students’ team and was founded in 2018 by students at NC State University and the University of North Carolina. "Many of our team members would like to continue with this work after graduation, so it's the perfect opportunity to get inside the subject", explains team manager Emily Keller. To develop and build a real prosthesis gives the students valuable practical experience. “Many of us had worked or researched in this field or research before. Our prosthesis is semi-powered and cable-driven, so it actively assists in leg extension and passively in leg flexion," she continues.
At CYBATHLON, the team starts for the first time, and Emily expects the hurdle task to be the biggest challenge: "The hurdles are close together, not knocking everything over and keeping the balance while carrying the apple crate at the same time will be a challenge."
